the flavour of France

Situated about 162 kms south of Chennai, on the coast of the Bay of Bengal, is Pondicherry. The erstwhile celebrated bastion of France.  Pondicherry came to the limelight, with the arrival of the French in 1673. The land still bears the strong influence of France. The very air wafts laden with the glory of the past.  The laid-back town offers culture, in dazzling diversity, with churches, temples, and mosques.  Standing, as though engrossed in their distinct glory.

Pondicherry is dotted by a lovely, long beach, adorned with a War Memorial, French style buildings, grand temples, churches. India’s one of the most celebrated, modern ascetic – Maharshi Aurobindo, lived here, since his enlightenment. Auroville, the Aurobindo Ashram as well as his Samadhi draw a large bevy of tourists.
